ACT / Solicitor's Trust Account

Designated External Examiners

An ACT law practice can only appoint an external examiner designated as such by the ACT Law Society. Individuals currently holding this designation are listed at: https://www.actlawsociety.asn.au/practising-law/trust-accounts/designated-external-examiners. You'll find our auditor, Shakeel Khan, proudly listed among them.

Appointment of an External Examiner

Notify the Society in writing within one month of engaging the external examiner. There is a form available on the Law Society's website at www.actlawsociety.asn.au/practising-law/trust-accounts/trust-account-notification-forms.

Audit Period

The trust accounting year runs from 1 April to 31 March inclusive.

Lodgement of the External Examiner's Report

The external examiner is required to lodge their report with the Society as soon as practicable after completing the examination. In any case, the Society expects to receive the report no later than 31 May.
